Go out and conquer the world today!

Wow! I had a rough day yesterday. The weight of running a business in the trades, being a Father, Husband, and just trying to do the right thing, had been weighing on me. l felt like a total failure in every area. I think some of it was just the exhaustion and pressure building up and spilling over, coupled with the enemy whispering lies to me. At the end of the day I was spent and just wanted to weep. Have you ever had a day like that??

Johnna to the rescue!

My wife, Johnna, has an amazing spirit and really wants to see me reach my full potential in life. I am so grateful for that in her. She sensed I was struggling and asked if she could pray for me. When she did I was so moved by her willingness to fight for me and pray for me I felt very empowered. We went to bed and I woke up today as normal, worked on a few things, hit the gym, then got ready for work and left. That's where the ordinary day turned to extraordinary.

The most powerful text I've ever received

While I was at work, I got a text from Johnna saying "I pray you go out and conquer the world today!" My heart was filled with Joy and I literally felt like I could go conquer the world. You see, Johnna realizes that she can either build me up into a far greater Man than I really am or she can criticize me for all the mistakes I make and take me down. By focusing on building me up she made me feel loved and respected and like she really believes I can go get em. That for any husband or wife is amazing and empowering.

Mistakes vs Empowerment

I continue to make mistakes and will always do so unfortunately. I am a fallen human being, and no matter how much I want to be prefect, I never will be. That being said, as a spouse, Johnna has a choice everyday. To build me up and focus on the positive things about me, or she can criticize me (rightfully so sometimes) for all the mistakes I make. She can literally choose life or death. I love this verse in Proverbs 18:21 NIV "The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit." As a husband or wife we can speak life into each other and eat the fruits of a deep intimate relationship. Or we can choose to criticize, nag, and manipulate them and reap the fruits of an unhappy marriage. Which one do you want??

I am not saying that there aren't times where we need to communicate hurts or disagreements. What I am saying is we need to choose carefuly what we do say to each other. Sticks and stones can break bones, but words, according to the scripture, can destroy life. Wow! That is powerful.

If you really want to see your Husband or Wife really grow and flourish in life, then please be part of that by speaking life into them. You will have far more bliss and intimacy in your marriage than you ever dreamed of.
